Naples, FL - The Polars Softball team faced off with two opponents on Wednesday losing to NYU 9-1 and losing to SUNY Brockport 6-4.
Game one saw NYU get the first runs across home plate scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Crown answered back with one run in the top of the 2nd inning as
Abbey Underdahl scored on a wild pitch. The Polars would leave one on base with the score sitting at 4-1. New York University would notch five more runs through the next few innings. Crown left a few on base but were unable to get the bats going falling by a score of 9-1 in 5 innings.
Four Polars notched a hit with
Madi Hecox,
Itzel Valles,
Ashley Earick, and
Maria Lilienthal all totaling one hit each.
Emmy Romportl pitched four innings allowing six earned runs.
Crown would take advantage of the first couple of innings in game two scoring the first four runs of the game.
Madi Hecox led off the game with a single and stolen base and two groundouts drove her in for the first run of the game. The third inning saw Crown score three runs off of singles form
Maria Lilienthal,
Madi Hecox, and
Emmy Romportl with the score sitting at 4-0 Crown in the lead. Brockport scored 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning cutting Crown's lead to 4-3. A three run top of the 7th inning saw Brockport take the lead 6-4. The Polars were able to get runners on first and third but couldn't drive any runs in the bottom half and the final score ended 6-4 in Brockport's favor.
Madi Hecox totaled 2 hits in 3 at bats and scored 2 runs to lead the Polars offense.
Emmy Romportl and
Maria Lilienthal both added a hit as well with Romportl totaling 3 runs batted in.
Abbie Carroll and
Ashley Earick both pitched for Crown.
Crown falls to 1-15 on the year and it concludes their Florida trip as they return to action back in St. Paul, Minnesota for a double header with Maranatha Baptist on Friday March 17th at 10:30am and 12:30pm.
