Polars Softball Falls to Alfred State and Wilmington

Naples, FL - The Crown College Polars Softball team faced of with Alfred State and Wilmington College on Monday, falling by scores of 6-3 and 5-3.

Alfred State started the scoring in game one getting 5 runners across home plate through the first five innings. Crown left four players on base through the first five innings and two of those in scoring position. The top of the sixth inning saw Emmy Romportl hit a double scoring Crown's first run of the game. Alfred State was able to get one more runner across in the bottom of the sixth before the Polars final at bats. Crown found some late offense after a few Polars got on base. A single from Earick, stolen base, and a triple from Madi Hecox gave Crown their second run of the game. Hecox ended up scoring for the Polars and Crown's 7th inning rally would end after two runs scored and the final score would favor Alfred State 6-3.

Abbie Carroll pitched all 6 innings for Crown allowing 6 earned runs on 9 hits. She also struck out 4 in the contest. Maliya Martinez and Ashley Earick notched multi hit games with each going 2-3 on the day. Emmy Romport grabbed two RBI's in the contest as well. 

Game two saw Crown face off with Wilmington College. Wilmington notched the first three runs of the game in the first three innings with one run coming in each. Crown would leave four runners on base in the first 2 innings and would get the first run in the bottom of the third inning after a bunt single from Madi Hecox, a sacrifice bunt, a stolen base and a groundout driving in Hecox. Both teams would score again in the 4th inning with the score sitting at 4-2. A double from Ashley Earick and a stolen base put herself in scoring position to leadoff the inning and she would score on a safety squeeze. A quiet top of the 5th from Wilmington found Crown able to capitalize with another run scored, this time off an Itzel Valles triple with the score at 4-3. The Polars would leave two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth with a chance to tie and the score would finish at 5-3 in Wilmington's favor.

Romportl pitched a complete game for Crown giving up 5 earned runs off of 12 hits and adding one strikeout. Madi Hecox, Itzel Valles, and Ashley Earick all had two hits in the game to lead the Polars offense.

Crown falls to 1-11 and looks to bounce back tomorrow, March 14th facing off with Mitchell College and Nazareth College at 8am and 10am.
