Softball Stumbles to MIAC Foes in Season Opening Dome Games

Mankato, MN - The Crown College Polars Softball team faced off with two MIAC competitors, St. Mary's (MN) and St. Kates, on Saturday losing by scores of 8-0 and 9-1.

Crown held tight with St. Mary's early on only trailing by one run going into the forth inning. A few runs late in the 4th inning and the ensuing 5th inning put the Polars down 6-0 in the fifth. Maria Lilienthal headlined the Polars offense going 2-3 on the day grabbing her first multi hit game of the year. The Polars couldn't quite string together a rally with 4 hots on the day and two hits coming in the 3rd falling by a score of 8-0. Abbie Carroll pitched a complete game for Crown giving up 8 earned runs on only 10 hits and added 3 strikeouts to the mix.

For second game of the day at the MSU dome the Polars faced off with St. Kate's. Crown fell behind early as St. Kate's scored two runs in their first inning at bats. The Polars would answer right back in the second inning with a run of their own as Lilienthal scored on a passed ball. From there on out it was all Wildcats with St. Kates scoring runs in the 3rd, 5th, and 6th innings and the Polars would fall by a score of 9-1. Crown totaled 4 hits on the day with Ashley Earick going 1-3, Lilienthal going 1-3, Abbey Underdahl going 1-3, and Morgan Aylsworth getting her first career college hit. Earick pitched all 6 innings for Crown and only gave up 3 earned runs.

The Polars move to 0-2 on the year and return to action next Saturday, February 25th on the road at Carleton to face the Knights in a doubleheader at 2pm and 4pm for their second dome doubleheader of the season.
