St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Crown College Polars faced off with the Bethany Lutheran Vikings on Friday ultimately coming out on top 63-57.
The first quarter saw Crown jump out in front early pushing out to an 8-3 lead behind a few baskets from
McKenzie Latzke and
Isabelle Sager. The rest of the quarter was even with both teams finishing at 16 apiece to end the quarter. The second quarter saw Crown take a sizable lead extending the lead to 7 behind buckets from Sager and
Melanie Delestrez with the first half ending with Crown out in front 34-28.
The third quarter started out with the Vikings gaining their first lead in the game since the first few minutes. The Polars didn't look back from there in the third going on a 17-6 to end the quarter with Latzke hitting a deep buzzer beater three. The fourth quarter saw no team score for the first three minutes. Crown held off the Vikings from then on out, beating the Vikings for the first time in NCAA history since the Polars joined the NCAA in 2008.
Isabelle Sager led the scoring for Crown with 17 points, a career high for her. Latzke shortly followed with 13 points and
Hayla Flowers with 9 points. Latzke also led the rebounding with 8 rebounds and
Madi Hecox totaled 7 rebounds.
Crown as a team shot 45.1% from the field going 23-51 and 20% from three-point range going 3-15.
The Polars Women move to 10-9 on the season and 5-5 in UMAC play to ties the program record for wins in a season with ten since joining the NCAA in 2008. They return home for Senior day on Saturday, February 11
th at 4:45pm.
