Van Dam Hits Buzzer Beater, Polars Top Norse 58-56

Decorah, IA - The Polars Men's basketball team faced off with Luther College on the road and came out on top 58-56.

Luther jumped out in front to start the game taking a 9-5 lead. Five lead changes later in the first half saw Crown push back out in front by five points 26-21 with 4:15 to play. The Norse took the lead back with a few seconds remaining but a three ball from Cade Carroll gave Crown the 29-27 lead at half.

The second half was much of the same as both teams battled to gain an edge. The second half saw a six minute stretch where only 4 total points were scored. Luther stretched their lead up to seven points with six minutes remaining. Buckets from Jacob Masek and Carter Behne gave Crown the lead down the final stretch. With just six seconds to go Luther knocked down a bucket and drew a foul which resulted in a 1 point lead with four seconds to play. An inbound pass to Micah Ladd, a quick pass to Jacob Van Dam, and with the game on the line he knocked down a triple as time was expiring to give the Polars their 5th straight win.

Tyrus Buckner and Cade Carroll both led the scoring with 15 points each. Buckner also tabbed a double-double with 11 rebounds. Carroll followed close behind with 9 rebounds of his own. The Polars shot just over 38% as a team and 25% from the three point line in the contest.

Crown moves to 5-0 on the season and will head on the road for a contest with UW-Eau Claire on Tuesday, November 28th at 7pm.
