Men's Soccer Falls to Bethany Lutheran 2-1 After Late Vikings Goal

St. Bonifacius, MN - The Polars Men's Soccer team faced off with the Bethany Lutheran Vikings on Wednesday and lost 2-1.

The first score of the day went to the Vikings in the 26th minute on a penalty kick that was awarded. After the early lead the Polars kept up matching the Vikings shots and notching one more corner kick. The first half finished at 1-0, the slight edge to the Vikings. The second half saw Crown come to life with an opportunity in the 66th minute after a foul by the Vikings was committed in the box giving Crown a penalty kick. Ashton Hosler sent the penalty kick into the back of the net with his right foot to even the score at 1-1. The sore would stay that way for the next 22 minutes of play. A free kick from about 45 yards out taken by the Vikings found its way by Roque to give the Vikings the lead and the score ended 2-1.

Eight yellow cards were given out all in the second half. Crown had the slight edge with 7 shots and totaled 9 corner kicks on the evening. Ashton Hosler scored his 5th goal of the season.

The Polars fall to 8-9-2 on the season and 6-5-2 in UMAC play and will finish the regular season with a home contest with UW-Superior this Saturday at 3:30pm with a UMAC playoffs spot on the line. In order for the Polars to clinch the final spot they need to either win or tie in their Saturday match or they need the University of Northwestern to tie or lose in their contest against Northland on Saturday.
