Late Goal Sinks Women’s Soccer

Morris, Minn. – Despite a 31-10 advantage in shots, the Crown Polars women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat on the road at Minnesota Morris on Tuesday.  The Cougars scored with just 1:06 remaining in the game to secure the improbable victory.

Abigail Shull scored an absolute stunner from distance in the 29th minute to stake Crown to the early lead, but Morris leveled things just a few minutes later on a penalty kick goal.

Crown had 17 shots and eight corner kicks in the first half, but couldn't convert that pressure into goals and the score was tied at the half.

The scores remained level deep into the second half despite the Polars having 14 more shots when a collision at the top of the box on a Cougar counterattack led to an open goal and an easy chance for Jadyn Sondrol who rolled the ball across the line in what proved to be the final say in the match.

Crown returns home to host UMAC favorites UW-Superior on Friday in a 2 p.m. match.
