Roseville, Minn. – The Crown women's soccer team had to settle for a single point on Thursday night after a 2-2 draw at Northwestern (Minn.). The deadlocked match puts the Polars on four points after the first two matches of the UMAC season.
The Polars scored the match's opening two goals in the first half, but the host Eagles scored twice in the first 45 minutes to draw level. Neither side could find a breakthrough in the second half and the two teams left with a share of the points.
Emma Domka got the scoring started with a looping effort from a tight angle on the right side and the Polars led after just 5:31.
Then, with 18:09 left in the first half,
Lexi Shreve collected a second ball from a free kick and hit a postage stamp of a shot into the top corner from outside the box to stake Crown to a two-goal advantage.
The Polars, who were outshot by the Eagles 19-4, were then tasked with soaking up the home team's pressure for the rest of the half, and couldn't make the lead stick.
UNW scored twice, with their second coming less than three minutes until halftime to knot the score at 2-2.
The second half featured some more pressure from the hosts, with UNW holding a 9-1 advantage in second half shots. The Crown defense, and stand-in goalkeeper
Riley Breitlow, who made 12 saves, were massive, holding the Eagles off the scoreboard to preserve the draw.
Crown will look to continue the hot start to their conference season as they travel to North Central on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
