St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Crown baseball team looked to get a leg up on conference favorite Northwestern by taking the third and decisive game of their series after splitting with the Eagles on Saturday. The UNW bats had other ideas, however, as the visitors hit five home runs en route to a 15-1 victory.
The Eagles totaled 19 hits on the night, led by outfielder Guerin Szafraniec who went 4-5, including a double and two home runs, with seven RBI for the game.
Crown was led by
Bailey Sarto who went 2-2 with a walk, reaching in all three plate appearances. Catcher
Aaron Clogston went 2-3 and doubled home Sarto in the bottom of the second for Crown's lone run.
The loss evens Crown's record at 9-9 for the season, including a 2-2 mark in Conference play. The Storm are currently tied with Martin Luther and UW-Superior for third place in the conference standings.
Crown will waste no time attempting to get back above .500, traveling to New Ulm for a double-header against the Martin Luther College Knights on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
