Arden Hills, Minn. - Crown College baseball took on Bethel University on Monday in their final non-conference game before the start of UMAC play on Tuesday. The Royals topped the Storm by a final score of 12-2.
Crown was undone by a pair of errors and one big swing in a seven-run fourth inning for the home team.
Bethel struck first in the third inning but Crown was able to even things up in the top half of the fourth as
Rhys Dewick singled home
Kyle Schroedle who had doubled.
The bottom of the fourth is where things unraveled for Crown. Bethel's leadoff man reached on an error and the next batter was walked. After a fly out that advanced the runners and a line-out, Crown almost escaped unharmed. The next batter reached on an infield single and the next two hitters also singled bringing in three unearned runs.
A hit batter loaded the bases and Bethel's centerfielder Matthew Carlsen doubled the home team's total with one swing. Crown's starter,
Aidan Volk-Specht would be chased two batters later and Crown couldn't mount a comeback against the Bethel bullpen.
The Storm would get a consolation run in the eighth when
Patrick Minchow singled home pinch runner Alexander Lecompte.
Crown will look to get off to a winning start to conference play on Tuesday when they play Minnesota Morris in a game that will be played at Gustavus in St. Peter, Minnesota. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
