Baseball Picks up Win Over Cornell

Box Score Davenport, FL – Crown baseball picked up a big win on Wednesday evening by a final score of 14-6. A game that was supposed to start at 2:30 ET didn't ended up starting until almost 6:30 ET as rain delayed things a bit.
 
The offense didn't miss a beat though, scoring 14 runs. Things got started in the 2nd inning on an Ashton Long 2 run shot to left field that put the Storm ahead 2-1. In the 3rd inning Seth Betts doubled into the left center field gap scoring 1 and then in the 4th Jack Becker doubled down the left field line, scoring Alejandro Molina and Aaron Clogston to put Crown up 5-2.
 
Cornell would close the gap to 5-4 before a Rhys Dewick solo homerun in the 5th inning made it 6-4. In the 6th inning, Crown really extended the lead and put the game away. They scored a total of 6 runs on only 2 hits. Molina scored on a passed ball, Mason Brock doubled down the left field line to drive in 2 runs, Aaron Clogston then reached 1st base on a catcher's interference that allowed a run to score since the bases were loaded, and then finally Molina capped it off with a 2 RBI single to right field.
 
Crown would then tack on 2 more in the 8th inning on a Clogston RBI single followed by a Devyn Wilson-Cowan RBI single to make it 14-6 which ended up being the final score.
 
Jacob Shirley got the start for Crown and the freshman went 5 innings, giving up 3 earned runs while also striking out 4. Caleb Yowell and Caleb Keen came out the bullpen and gave the Storm 2 innings a piece, Keen threw 2 scoreless innings in his appearance.
 
The win moves Crown to 4-4 on the year as they continue their Florida trip. On Thursday the Storm will face Dominican University and Johnson & Wales University.
