St. Paul, Minn. – The Crown women's basketball season wrapped up their first season under new head coach
Leah Szabla on Wednesday with an 81-59 loss to the University of Northwestern in the UMAC quarterfinals. Crown finished the year with a 7-14 mark overall, but took a huge jump forward and looked poised to climb up the conference rankings sooner rather than later.
On this night, however, it was the hot-shooting Eagles who took the victory as the home team hit on 10-19 three point attempts to cruise to the opening round victory. Crown showed impressive fight, outscoring Northwestern 23-17 in the third quarter, but it wouldn't be enough to carve into the Eagles lead.
Crown was led by
Dominique Urbina's 19 points and five assists, and also got big nights from
Amy Martius who had 17 points and six rebounds and double-figures from
McKenzie Latzke who scored eleven.
Shauna Thompson led the team with eight rebounds while senior
Abbe Dufault got a three to go to get herself in the scorebook.
The future is bright for coach Szabla and the Storm as this team will be one to watch in the near future.
