St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Crown volleyball team lost to the Concordia Cobbers on Tuesday night, but not before taking a set from the MIAC opponent. The Polars rebounded from a difficult first set to grab the second set and rallied in the fourth set, but were unable to push the match to a decisive fifth set.
Crown lost set one 25-9 but rebounded to take the second set 25-21. A 4-0 run to start the set and a pair of 3-0 spurts toward the end of the set were vital in evening the match at 1-1.
The Cobbers came back strong in set three, winning 25-11, but the Polars once again rallied, making the fourth set interesting with a 4-0 run to pull within five late, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Ashley Earick led the team with seven kills, with
Hailey Klein (six) and
Amber Gamer (five) close behind. Gracie Vanbebber and Shaelyn Mcniell shared the top mark with nine assists each, and Mcneill and
Sage Johnston both reached double-digit digs with twelve and eleven respectively.
The Polars will look to take the momentum from the strong performance into a pair of road contests in UMAC play this weekend as the team travels to Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther.
