St. Bonifacius --- Crown College lost their match to NAIA school Viterbo today 1-8. Crown was shorthanded going into their home opener, with only 12 players available. They stepped up and played a tough physical game and kept it close till the end.
Ashley Pierce's fantastic start continued as she scored her third goal of her Freshman season.
Viterbo jumped on top early with two goals in the first eight minutes and added a third before going into halftime up 3-0. The Storm brought it to 3-1 after a fantastic drive and rough collision by
Sidney Manske and the V-Hawk's goalie that caused the ball to ricochet to Peirce who put it in the back of the net. The goalie was issued a yellow card and Manske was able to get up and later reenter the game.
Molly Schmitz had 13 saves in the game as the defense was pressured by the fresh V-Hawks offense.
The game marked the first of September home games for the Storm. They are back on the field tomorrow at 3:30 against NCCAA school Faith Baptist, out of Ankeny, Iowa. It will be soccer team's first NCCAA contest since joining this summer.
