ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown College Softball traveled to Superior Saturday to face off against the UWS Yellowjackets. Both games were very competitive, featuring multiple lead changes each. However, the Yellowjackets prevailed, winning the first 5-4 and the second 8-4.
The first game was a nail-biter, going nine innings. Crown took the lead first, but the Yellowjackets matched each of the Storm's scoring opportunities. The score went back and forth, with four lead changes between the third and sixth innings. After that, the bats went silent for both teams, taking the game into extra innings. The score remained 4-4 until the bottom of the ninth, when the Yellowjackets were able to score and win.
Senior Zoe Roberts and first-year Morgan Lawrence both had impressive games at the plate with two hits apiece. Junior Maddie Noble started the game on the mound for the Storm, pitching five innings with no earned runs, followed by first-year Abbie Carroll, who went the final 3.2 innings with two earned.
Game two featured an early barrage of offense by the Storm. First-year Zeta Brown had RBI singles in the first and fourth innings, followed by a two-RBI single from fellow first-year Lindsay Glover in the bottom of the fourth. However, like the first game, the Yellowjackets had an answer. They came back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six and taking the lead. The Storm were unable to muster much offense after that and fell to their conference adversaries from up north.
On the mound for the Storm was a combined effort from Savannah Ellis, Lindsay Glover, and Abbie Carroll. Senior Laryssa Vik and first-year Hailey Wilson both had two hits each at the dish.
Crown continues their season Tuesday afternoon at home vs. the Northwestern Eagles.
