Gavin Boots, Mason Brock Named UMAC Player/Pitcher of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. --- In the opening week for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Player of the Week awards for the 2021 baseball season, the Storm had two players honored by the UMAC Athletics Communications Departments.

First-year Mason Brock won his first collegiate Player of the Week award in the first opportunity after a ridiculous start to the season with six extra-base hits and eight walks, starting his collegiate career on a tear. Brock hit his first collegiate home run against UW-Superior on Tuesday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Sophomore Gavin Boots had an impressive start to his second Storm campaign after an incredible three-inning relief outing against St. John's. In a game against the Johnnies where they set their single-game home run record, Boots kept the Storm alive late when he pitched three innings without an earned run. He also a shutout inning of relief against the Yellowjackets at U.S. Bank Stadium.

These two honors are Head Coach Ryan Doheny's sixth and seventh under his four-year tenure. The Storm had three in their entire history before Doheny's arrival. Amazingly, six of those awards are pitching honors, and Brock's Player of the Week accolade is the first (but certainly not the last) for a position player during Doheny's time as Head Coach.

The Storm have a full set of games ahead, as they face the Bethel Royals on Monday, Hamline Pipers on Tuesday, and Gustavus Gusties on Friday.
