DUNDAS, Minn. --- Crown College Softball opened their season on Thursday despite the frigid outdoor weather, competing at the Dundas Dome near Northfield against conference-rival St. Scholastica in a non-league game. The Storm fell to the Saints in both contests, 5-1 and 8-0. Senior Laryssa Vik extended her impressive HBP record as she was once again hit by a pitch for the tenth time in her collegiate career.
Like the weather outside, the Storm started cold from the plate, taking some time to adjust after the action's long break. Laryssa Vik, Zoe Roberts, Ava Thiewes, and Kaylee Wilson recorded hits in the first contest, with Wilson yielding the Storm's lone extra-base hit; Liz Kemp and Kuulei Ili both reached base in the second game.
Abbie Carroll started the opener for the Storm, her first in a Crown uniform. Carroll had three strikeouts in 3.1 innings, allowed two earned runs. Lindsay Glover relieved Carroll for the rest of the fourth inning. Noble came in to relieve Glover and had the best Storm pitching performance on the day, with two innings of shutout softball, striking out four. In game two, sophomore Savannah Ellis received the start for the Storm, pitching 1.1 innings with two earned runs. Earick relieved Ellis for the remaining 2.2 innings.
The Storm will continue their Dome Series as they head to Auggie Dome in early March, with opponents yet to be determined. They'll then go back to Dundas for a matchup with Concordia-Moorhead before a Plymouth Dome game against UM-Morris.
