Football Ends Season with Loss to Northwestern

St. Paul, Minn. – The Crown football team wrapped up their 2021 campaign with a 59-20 loss to the University of Northwestern -St. Paul on Wednesday, playing a rescheduled game from a week and a half ago.  The Storm gained 304 yards and had 20 first downs, but two lost fumbles, an interception, and five turnover on downs stalled the team's scoring.

The Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and led by a score of 45-7 after the third, with Crown grabbing a couple of late touchdowns in the fourth quarter to match two return touchdowns from the hosts in the final period.

Jared Gilmore led the passing attack with 214 yards and three touchdowns while Josh Wallace threw one pass for a 14 yard completion.  Wallace also led the way on the ground, gaining 81 yards on 17 carries.  Maddox Lawien enjoyed his second consecutive 100 yard game, catching eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.  George Green caught six passes for 41 yards and a score and O-lineman Ugo Egwim got into the end zone with a seven yard catch and run.

On the defensive side of the ball, Gabe Banks led the team with seven tackles while Quis Icon was a menace, recording 2.5 tackles for loss and coming up with yet another fumble recovery.  Caden Cross had an interception.

The Storm graduate just three seniors and will look to build off coach Anthony Franz's first season in charge that was not short on highlights as the program continues to grow.
