Ashland, Wis. – The Crown volleyball team took the second set from host Northland College on Saturday in their regular season finale and were competitive throughout. Unfortunately, the Lumber Jills were able to withstand the strong play from the Storm to claim a 3-1 victory.
After dropping the first set 25-14, Crown rallied back in the second to level the match at 1-1. Trailing 6-2 to open the set, Crown rallied to tie things at 15-15 and then used a 6-0 run to take a commanding lead. That run included two aces from
Chloe Burr and three
Gretchen Warner kills.
Northland rallied to get back to within two points but the Storm hung on to claim set two.
The thirds set was extremely even, eventually landing on a 21-19 Northland advantage, but the hosts closed that set on a 4-0 run to take the 2-1 advantage.
The fourth and final set played out in similar fashion, with the Storm holding a 22-19 advantage late, but again it was the Jills who would go on the decisive run, this time finishing things off with a 6-0 spurt to seal the set and the match.
Crown was led by eleven kills from Warner who was magnificent with just two attacking errors and a .474 hitting percentage for the match.
Jocelynn Shockley had eight kills and
Gracie Zieroth added six.
Talana Rudzitis recorded 25 assists while Crown had four players contribute double figure digs. That group was led by 19 from Shockley and also included Zieroth (18), Rudzitis (17) and
Sage Johnston (14).
The Storm now prepare for NCCAA regional play, which begins next week.
