Crown Defeated By Saints in UMAC Playoffs Despite Wendel's 30 Points, 18 Rebounds

DULUTH, Minn. --- Crown College Men's Basketball fell 75-71 to the St. Scholastica Saints in the first round of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Playoffs on Monday, marking the end of their 2019-20 campaign. This was the third consecutive playoff appearance for the Storm. Senior Tim Wendel led the way for Crown, ending his final season on a historic run continued with 30 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block.

Junior Christian Moore had 18 points, eight rebounds, and four made three-point attempts. Senior Gunnar Ledin had 13 points in the contest, grabbed six rebounds, and dished four assists. Senior point guard Zach Skorik had seven points and made every shot that he took, and had three assists. Senior Torry Ledin made one three-pointer to complete the Storm's scoring performance.

The Storm battled close with the Saints all game and the Storm held a nine-point lead with eleven minutes remaining, but with six minutes on the clock, St. Scholastica tied it up. The Saints quickly continued their comeback and led by seven with 3:45 left in the contest. However, Crown quickly responded with Torry Ledin's three-pointer and two Wendel buckets, tying up the game with two minutes remaining. The game remained tied at 71 until Saints senior Collin Anderson hit a go-ahead three with 35 seconds remaining. The Storm couldn't counter and St. Scholastica was able to hold on to advance.

During this game, Wendel upped his career point total to 2,077, a Crown record that will last for a long, long time. The senior led the conference in scoring for the past two straight seasons and was the second-leading scorer in his first two seasons.

The St. Scholastica Saints will move on to face the Northwestern Eagles on Wednesday for the UMAC Semifinals. The winner of that contest will move on to face the winner of the Bethany Lutheran/UW-Superior game for the UMAC Tournament Championship and a berth to the NCAA Tournament.
