ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown Women's Basketball was defeated in a 67-45 loss to the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Wednesday night, but the score differential doesn't tell the whole story. Despite being shorthanded with only six active players, Crown was only down three points with under three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Facing the team that is looking to extend their streak of four Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championships, the Storm showed confidence in their performance, battling close with the tough conference opponent and forcing them to press throughout the contest and keep their starters on the court.
All six team members scored for the Storm with sophomore guard Shauna Thompson leading the way with thirteen points. Senior guard Stevey De La Ossa was also in double figures with eleven points. First-year Amy Martius added seven points, sophomore Katie Archer added six points, senior Patricia Gibson added six points, and sophomore Thiery Zachary added two points off the bench.
Gibson led the way in several areas of the game, with a team-high nine rebounds, a team-high five assists, a team-high three steals, and a team-high two blocks. Martius also led with three steals and added five boards. De La Ossa and Thompson both had two steals, and De La Ossa added four assists in the contest.
The Storm move on from this game with a matchup against the North Central Rams on Saturday in Minneapolis.
