ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown Men's Soccer defeated the Northwestern Eagles on Tuesday evening 1-0 in a thrilling contest under the lights at Old National Bank Stadium. After a 0-0 draw in the first half, junior
Igor Shevchenko headed in a throw from senior
Harvey Holcombe over the keeper's head for a legendary game-winning goal.
"Honestly, we came into this game knowing it was going to be a challenge. Coach had us set up to compete and win, and that's exactly what we did," said Shevchenko. "I'm happy to be in the scoresheet but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter who gets [the goal]. We're playing for God's glory, all glory to Him."
After a stellar 54 minutes of shutout play from junior goalkeeper
Foster Browning, he was unfortunately forced to leave due to injury, opening the door for first-year keeper
Erik Mills. Mills made five saves in the last 35 minutes of action and held on to the lead after Shevchenko's goal, recording his first collegiate win.
Crown won despite being outshot 22-5, with no corner kicks to the Eagles' six. This is the Storm's second straight victory over the Eagles, with the first coming in a 2-0 victory late last season. The Storm now head on their southern road trip with games against Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista this weekend.
