ROSEVILLE, Minn. --- Crown Baseball started their Minnesota schedule on Saturday, falling to Northwestern in both games of a doubleheader 4-0 and 5-4.
In game one, first-year pitcher
Derek Albers pitched well with a complete six innings, two strikeouts, and only a single earned run. Unfortunately, he didn't have much support from the Storm offense, with only second baseman
Bailey Sarto keeping the Eagles from a no-hitter in the contest.
In the second game, the Storm showed a lot more pop, with senior third baseman
Kress Medina scoring the first run for Crown in the top of the second inning, with a sacrifice fly to score sophomore shortstop
Seth Betts. Later in the inning, the junior Sarto had an RBI single to score
Levi Knott as Crown took a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, by the end of the inning, the Storm trailed 4-2 but took another run in the fourth when center fielder
Matt Sanchez found home plate on a wild pitch. Down one in the sixth, Sarto hammered a home run over the left field fence for the Storm's first home run of the season. Unfortunately, the Eagles added a run in the bottom of the sixth and took the game 5-4. First-year
Rico Avila started the game for the Storm, first-year
Nick Brock added two shutout innings, and sophomore
Ethan Hyatt took the loss as he pitched the sixth inning.
The Storm next play Martin Luther on Wednesday at Minnetonka High School, a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
