Game 1: Crown vs. RIT
Final Score: Crown 12, RIT 3 (6 innings)
In game one of Crown's Spring Break trip, the Storm defeated Rochester Institute of Technology easily 12-3. Crown had a big three-run first inning to take an early lead 3-0 as
Laryssa Vik hit an RBI double and
Ellie Clark walked with the bases loaded for an RBI.
Samantha Collins hit an RBI single in the third inning and
Liz Kemp had an RBI in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead, which Crown held the rest of the way. In the fifth,
Olivia Dols hit two-RBI double to score three, and in the sixth Crown had back to back RBI triples by
Olivia Christopherson and
Ellie Clark as the Storm defeated the Tigers. Pitching,
Maddie Noble secured her first collegiate win, pitching a complete game with only one earned run and five hits allowed.
Game 2: Crown vs. Knox
Final Score: Crown 5, Knox 6 (8 innings)
In the second game for the softball team, Crown fell in an extra innings game against Knox in heartbreaking fashion as the Prairie Fire scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to steal the win. After falling behind 0-1 early, a
Maddie Noble double scored
Demi Brezina to knot the game back up. Knox added two more runs, but then the Storm once again matched it an RBI single from Brezina scored
Zoe Roberts and set up
Laryssa Vik with an opportunity to steal home to tie the contest. The game remained tied through seven, and in extra the Storm came out and took a two run lead behind a sacrifice fly from Vik that scored
Telma Roesler and a
Liz Kemp double that scored Roberts. Unfortunately, the Prairie Fire scored three at the end of the contest to take the win.
Olivia Christopherson pitched the game for the Storm, and allowed five earned runs in 7.2 innings, along with striking out eight in the contest.
Game 3: Crown vs. Brockport
Final Score: Crown 3, Brockport 6
In the first game on Saturday, the Storm fell early to the Brockport Golden Eagles 6-0 after two innings. The Storm amounted a late comeback with
Liz Kemp having an RBI single to score
Laryssa Vik and
Samantha Collins hitting a single to score Brezina in the sixth. The comeback continued in the seventh as Brezina hit a sacrifice fly to score
Zoe Roberts, but it was too little too late to best the Golden Eagles. Kemp pitched for the Storm, and struck out three in a complete game.Â
Game 4: Crown vs. North Central (Ill.)
Final Score: Crown 0, North Central 8 (5 innings)
Next the Storm faced the North Central College Cardinals (not the familiar Rams from Minneapolis), and fell 0-8 to the Illinois school.
Liz Kemp and
Olivia Dols both had hits for the Storm, and
Maddie Noble pitched.
Game 5: Crown vs. Pitt-Bradford
Final Score: Pitt-Bradford 7, Crown 3
On Sunday, the Storm started out with an 0-4 deficit in the middle of the first inning.
Laryssa Vik hit an RBI single to score
Telma Roesler to get a run back in the bottom of the first. In the third inning,
Olivia Dols had an RBI single that scored
Zoe Roberts to make it 4-2 still in favor of the Panthers. Bradford extended their lead to 7-2 by the end of the fifth inning. In the seventh, the Storm got another run back when Roberts hit a single to score
Samantha Collins. Unfortunately, the scoring stopped there as the Panthers took the game 7-3.
Olivia Christopherson was on the mound for the Storm, pitching a complete game and striking out five in the contest.
Game 6: Crown vs. Brockport
Final Score: Brockport 19, Crown 6 (5 innings)
The Storm struggled in the second game in the Florida heat, falling to Brockport 19-6. The Storm scored a single run in the second inning as
Ally Adams had her first RBI of her collegiate career, with an RBI single that scored
Ellie Clark. The rest of the six Storm runs came in the third inning, with
Liz Kemp, Clark,
Tori Diaz, and
Demi Brezina all recording RBIs in the inning. Kemp pitched the game for the Storm and recorded one strikeout in five innings.
Game 7: Crown vs. UM-Morris
Final Score: UM-Morris 2, Crown 4
In a busy three-game day, Crown opened with a win over UMAC rival UM-Morris.
Olivia Christopherson received her first win of the season as the Storm bested the Cougars 4-2. The scoring started early when sophomore Layrssa Vik hit a two-run home run in the first inning, her first home run of her career. In the second inning,
Zoe Roberts and
Liz Kemp both hit RBI singles to give the Storm a 4-0 lead. Christopherson pitched a complete game win in the contest with only two earned runs and six strikeouts.Â
Game 8: Crown vs. Brockport
Final Score: Brockport 3, Crown 2
In the second game of the day in the early afternoon on Wednesday, Crown lost a riveting game with Brockport 3-2. After the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, the Storm countered when Temla Roesler scored
Samantha Collins with an RBI single. In the top of the seventh, Brockport scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Roesler hit an RBI double scoring Collins again and advancing
Ally Adams to third. Unfortunately, Adams couldn't find her way to home and the Storm fell 3-2 to the Golden Eagles.
Maddie Noble pitched for the Storm, with a complete game allowing three runs.Â
Game 9: Crown vs. UM-Morris
Final Score: Crown 5, UM-Morris 13Â (6Â innings)
In the third game of the day, the Cougars dominated early as they jumped to a 7-0 lead by the second inning. The Storm scored five runs in the middle innings to cut it to a 7-5 Cougar led, largely capitalizing off of Morris miscues. Unfortunately, the Cougars found their rhythm late with three huge extra-base hits that added six runs to defeat the Storm 13-5.Â
Game 10: Crown vs. UM-Morris
Final Score: Crown 11, UM-Morris 10Â (8Â innings)
In Crown Softball's last game of the road trip, the Storm won a high-scoring back and forth extra inning affair 11-10 against the UM-Morris Cougars. It was
Laryssa Vik's walk off double that won the Storm their final game in the Sunshine State. Starting in the second inning,
Olivia Dols and
Zoe Roberts both had RBI singles to take a 2-1 Storm lead. Crown followed it up when Dols came up to bat again in the third inning with a single that cleared the bases to score three. Roberts added two RBIs to improve the Crown lead to six runs. After the top of the fifth inning where the Cougars came back within one, Roberts added another RBI single and
Laryssa Vik had an RBI double. The Storm allowed four runs in the seventh as the Cougars came back to force extras, but Crown spoiled their comeback when Vik hit in Roberts to defeat the UMAC rival. First-year pitcher
Maddie Noble had her second win of the season, going eight innings and striking out two in the contest.Â
