ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Junior forward Timothy Wendel was honored on Monday afternoon, as the D3hoops.com All-Region Teams were announced, with Wendel named Third Team All-Region. Crown's junior forward was chosen from the 716 players that were nominated this year.
Crown's star player added the All-Region selection to his impressive accolades from the season, including being named a UMAC First-Team All-Conference selection, UMAC All-Defensive Team, and UMAC Player of the Year. The forward broke five Crown NCAA-era collegiate season records including points (599), scoring average (22.2), FG made (195), FT made (130), and minutes played (938), along with leading the Storm to their highest win total in the NCAA-era. Wendel was especially dominant during conference play, where he finished ranked first in scoring (23.9), rebounding (10.4), 3PT% (45.1%), FT% (86.1%), blocks (1.3), and minutes (37) while ranking second in steals at 1.8 per game and third in overall field goal percentage at 53.4%.
This selection is the second All-West Third-Team selection in Crown Men's Basketball's history, as Wendel joins Bryce Williams as the two Storm players honored with the award. Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The men's All-American team will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men's championships, and the women's All-American team will be announced at the Division III women's championships.
This is the 18th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 22nd annual All-American selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
