Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wendel, Ledin Lead Storm to Win and Playoff Berth

ASHLAND, Wis. --- Crown Men's Basketball clinched a berth in the UMAC Playoffs on Saturday as they beat the Northland Lumberjacks 79-71. Despite a fairly close score, there were only two times after the opening tip where the game was tied, and Crown never trailed. Junior forward Timothy Wendel led the Storm for the third straight game, with 26 points in the contest (including hitting all five shots from downtown). This is the third straight matchup Wendel has had at least 25 points. Wendel also added three blocks and eight rebounds in the game.

Junior Gunnar Ledin had his ninth straight game in double figures with 20 points, his fifth time surpassing the 20-point mark this season. Senior guard Josh Volness had eleven points and his third straight game with five or more assists. He also added seven boards and two blocks. Another senior guard, Keegan Oyugi, was also in double figures with ten points on over 50% shooting from the field.

The difference in the game came from the three-point line, where Crown shot 47% from beyond the arc. The Storm also scored 19 points off of turnovers compared to the Lumberjacks' seven. This playoff berth is the second straight year of Crown making the UMAC Playoffs. The Lumberjacks continue to fight for the #5 seed, with UM-Morris also in contention. The Storm return home on Wednesday for senior night and their last home game of the season against Martin Luther.
