DULUTH, Minn. --- In a riveting game between that decided which team took hold of the #3-seed in the UMAC Playoffs, the St. Scholastica Saints and the Crown College Storm faced off for the second time this season. Unfortunately, the Saints edged the Storm by a single point to take win the game 73-72. This result leads to Crown hosting the UM-Morris Cougars on Monday at 7 pm for the second straight year on Wild Card Monday.
The game was back and forth much of the game, with six lead changes and five ties. Junior forwards
Timothy Wendel and
Gunnar Ledin led the way for the Storm, combining for an astounding 56 points, over three-quarters of the team's points. The two made 50% of their three-point attempts (making 11 between the two of them). Additionally, Wendel had eight rebounds, two assists two steals, and two blocks.
Junior
Kole Jusczak had six points on 67% shooting from the field and grabbed eight boards in the game. Off the bench, sophomore wing
Christian Moore had six points, the only member of the Storm bench with points in the contest.
Notes: The Storm shot an incredibly 9/17 from long range in the first half, but came down to earth in the second half shooting 3/11. Crown shot only 50% from the free throw line, making only 6/12 of their attempts. Bench scoring was a huge difference in the game, with the Saint bench outscoring the Storm 36-6. Both teams had under 30 points in the paint as most of their scoring came from outside.
Crown ends their best regular season in NCAA-era history and looks to continue that run with a strong playoff run. Wendel ends the season leading the UMAC in both points and points per game both in the overall regular season and in strictly conference play.
