Mistretta Has Big Game as Storm Fall to Westminster 24-7

FULTON, Mo. --- Crown Football faced the Westminster Blue Jays on Saturday, but unfortunately fell to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) rival, 24-7. The game started as a battle of the defenses, with the Blue Jays holding a slight 3-0 lead at halftime. However, Westminster pulled away in the second half, taking the game by 17 points.

The Storm were led on offense by Cole Mistretta, who had 12 receptions, 126 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Jared Gilmore found the first-year receiver for a score halfway through the fourth quarter. It was Mistretta's third straight game of at least nine catches for over 100 yards and averages 111.4 yards over his past five games. Gilmore threw 19 completions in the contest, with 190 yards through the air and one touchdown pass. Sophomore running back Avory Caruthers led all Crown rushers with 31 yards on the ground.

Defensively for the Storm, junior Corey Huard led the team with 12 tackles, 11 solo. Huard and junior Jesse Synoground both recorded a pass broken up in the game. Senior Cody Ricketts and junior Micah Moyer both added nine tackles and led the team with 1.5 tackles for a loss each. Senior Joe Duffy and first-year Junior Doe also recorded a full tackle for a loss, and first-years Denilson Mendoza and Abraham Mayo both had half of a sack for a loss. Senior defensive back/receiver Sebastian Alvarado recorded an interception in the contest.

The Storm had 18 first downs in the game, nine of which came through the air. They totaled 213 yards and averaged 3.7 yards per play. First-year Tyler Blanchard recorded the longest play, a 57-yard punt return.

Crown Football now heads into their bye week before facing the Martin Luther Knights on their home turf in St. Bonifacius on Nov. 16.
