Volness Hits Buzzer Beater to Force OT, Storm Fall in Overtime 76-74

MORRIS, Minn. --- For the second game in a row, the Crown Men's Basketball team ended up with extra time after tying regulation. Unfortunately, this time around the UM-Morris Cougars won back a game they held late 76-74. Senior Josh Volness tied the game with a buzzer beater to cause overtime with a shot off the glass. With time expiring in overtime, a good three-point look by senior Adam Lechelt touched every part of the rim but didn't end up going through the net as time expired.

The Storm struggled with foul trouble all game, with junior Kole Jusczak having four second-half fouls, fouling out with 1:15 remaining in the regulation. Fellow junior Timothy Wendel fouled out with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, and leading scorer Gunnar Ledin fouled out with seven seconds remaining.

Gunnar Ledin led the Storm with 18 points in the contest, and sophomore Christian Moore had 14 points off the bench. Junior Torry Ledin had 12 points in the game including a much-needed three-point attempt in overtime and senior Josh Volness had ten points in the game.

Junior Timothy Wendel had five assists and nine rebounds as he had his lowest scoring night of the season, only scoring six points in the game. Wendel also had a block and two steals. Senior Keegan Oyugi led the team with ten rebounds, his first game with double-digit boards in his Crown career. Jusczak had a team-high three steals in the game, along with eight rebounds. Senior Logan Strand had two steals and a block in the game.

The visiting Storm scored 29 bench points compared to only nine for the home team. Morris improves to 5-6 in UMAC play as Crown drops to 6-5 as both pursue a chance at the conference playoffs. The Storm next return home for a matchup with the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Saturday.
