MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa --- Crown football went to Iowa to face the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers for a Saturday afternoon matchup between the UMAC foes. Crown held with the Tigers through one quarter, with the game tied at zero. However, in the second quarter, IWU scored 21 straight points before a first-year
Jason Sroufe 45-yard pick six put Crown on the board. The game remained 7-21 at halftime. In the second half, the Tigers pulled away, defeating the Storm 44-7.
On the offensive side, first-year quarterback
Devin Westbrook led the team with 131 yards through the air. Sophomore back
Derek Chilcoate led the Crown rushing attack with 68 yards on 23 attempts. First-year receiver Dom Guy had the longest rush for the Storm with a 21-yard end-around. Junior receiver
George Green led the receivers with 65 yards on two catches, with a 47-yard long.
Junior defensive lineman
Joe Duffy led the defense with 10 tackles, five solo and two sacks of his 2.5 tackles for loss. Sophomore
Jeremiah Jones also had five solo tackles, with eight total. First-year
Quis Icon had a sack, as did
Dakotah Wilkinson. Junior
Dan Clipperton had a fumble forced in the matchup.
Crown next travels to UM-Morris for a matchup next Saturday with the Cougars as they continue UMAC play.
