ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. — Crown men's soccer team fell to North Central in their season opener 2-4 in a non-conference matchup between the UMAC rivals.
Crown went down 16 minutes into the game 0-1 after North Central made a penalty kick. The Storm answered with a goal of their own as
Harvey Holcombe was able to find the back of the net, the junior's first career goal. Crown then went down 1-3 after the Rams scored a couple by the 52nd minute. Senior
Ger Jones made it a one-score game after he stole a pass from the NCU goalie intended for a defender and got past the keeper for the easy score. However, that wasn't enough for the Storm as they fell 2-4.
Three Storm athletes received yellow cards,
Igor Shevchenko,
Caleb Baumann, and
Jakob Grein. Crown was outshot by NCU, albeit barely, 13-14. Senior keeper
Eli Etzel had five saves in the matchup.
This match is the first of two times the Storm will face the Rams this season. The teams meet again on October 13th in Minneapolis on the Rams home turf for a UMAC game.
