Knott's Game Winner Caps Extra Innings Comeback

WATERTOWN, Minn. ---- Crown baseball ended their losing streak in grand fashion on Tuesday after an 11-inning thriller with Martin Luther ending with a Levi Knott RBI single that scored Connor Buchanan. The Crown run was the sixth straight run for the Storm as they came back from down 4-9 in the sixth inning and defeated the Knights 10-9.

Crown started the first inning with a run on the board after a Brooks Repking sacrifice fly scored first-year Seth Betts. Martin Luther quickly came back from the one run deficit and took the lead 4-1 by the end of the top of the third inning. Crown added another run in the bottom of the inning after Repking grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Betts once again. In the fifth, a Repking double scored Mason Hallada and Betts another time, but by the middle of the sixth, Crown still trailed 4-9.

That's when the comeback started for the Storm. Hallada singled in the sixth and scored Hunter Orozco to cut in the lead a run, but Crown still trailed by four going into the eighth. In the eighth, Seth Betts popped up and scored Hunter Orozco on a sacrifice fly to add another run. That was followed by a Kress Medina two-RBI double that scored Levi Knott and Hallada to almost catch up, behind by only a run by the bottom of the eighth. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, down one with baserunners on first and second, Tanner Stoel played hero by hitting a game-tying single, scoring Orozco. The game then headed to extra innings, where the teams remained scoreless up until the bottom of the eleventh when Connor Buchanan walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball. Knott came up to the plate and hit a single to right field, winning Crown the game 10-9 for their first conference win of the season.

Gideon Dunn made the start for the Storm but was awarded a no-decision after allowing four runs in four innings (though only one of the runs was earned). JT Adams came in and allowed five earned runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Kress Medina received the win for the Storm, as he allowed only two hits in five innings, striking out five and going deep into extra innings to preserve the game in winnable territory for the Storm.

In game two of the doubleheader, Crown trailed 1-4, and with one on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, a lightning delay postponed the game. Martin Luther and Crown will finish up game two and play a seven-inning non-conference matchup on Tuesday, May 8th in New Ulm.
