Crown Struggles vs. Martin Luther, Swept at Home

St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Martin Luther spoiled Crown's senior day by sweeping the Storm, and knocked Crown out of the top spot in the UMAC standings. Crown remains towards the top of the UMAC standings, in the mix of the hunt of a crowded playoff race between Bethany Lutheran (who Crown plays on Monday), St. Scholastica (who Crown plays Saturday), Northwestern (who Crown swept this week), and UW-Superior (who Crown split with this week).

Lis King had a remarkable first game pitching the game, with no earned runs, five strikeouts, and only six hits allowed in seven innings of work. Unfortunately, she allowed a total of four runs due to errors by the field. Olivia Dols started the scoring in game one, scoring Cassidy Valenzuela in the game's opening inning. In the second, Crown added two more runs with a Marissa Carter single scoring Cortney Gunderson, and a King single scoring Amanda Morrison. Crown's scoring stopped in the second inning, and four runs by Martin Luther in the fourth through sixth innings gave them the win.

Crown's struggles continued in game two, with Crown only scoring two unearned runs and Olivia Christopherson allowing six runs in the matchup. Crown's two losses put them behind St. Scholastica in the UMAC standings, with the two games in Duluth on Sunday of elevated importance.
