Duluth, Minn. — Crown softball had to sweep St. Scholastica to have a chance at home-field advantage in the UMAC Playoffs, and it didn't go as planned, as they were swept by the Saints. However, with a Martin Luther split with UM-Morris, Crown clinched another playoff appearance.
In game one, pitcher
Lis King had five innings and three earned runs, but five total runs as the Storm defense didn't aid King's effort once again. Leathers came in for two innings of relief as Crown only was able to put two runs on the board, falling in game one 2-5.
In game two, Crown allowed six straight runs to the Saints on pitcher Christopherson, as the lefty struggled against the top team's batting. Crown put in
Kailee Leathers to weather the storm, and she only allowed two more runs in the game, allowing Crown a chance at an improbable comeback. Crown put a score on the board for the first time in the fifth inning, as
Marissa Carter had an RBI single and
Cassidy Valenzuela had a two-RBI single. After no runs in the sixth inning, Crown trailed 3-7. Not giving up, Crown's Valenzuela had an RBI double, scoring
Demi Brezina to start the inning. They added another run on an
Olivia Dols single, another run on a
Laryssa Vik single, and another on a
Kailee Leathers single to tie up the game. However, St. Scholastica countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh to steal the game 8-7.
Crown plays Monday with Bethany Lutheran coming to town as they play their tenth conference game in under a week.
