St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Crown softball won its eighth straight game behind the impressive pitching performances of
Lis King and
Olivia Christopherson. Crown now sits alone at the top of the conference standings as the only remaining undefeated team in the UMAC.
Junior
Lis King had a remarkable game in the first matchup with UNW. In the first inning, King hit a two-run homer, scoring
Marissa Carter and herself. She also pitched a complete game, only allowing two runs and striking out seven. In the fifth inning, up 2-1, Crown's
Demi Brezina hit a sacrifice bunt that scored
Laryssa Vik. After the Eagles came back close with another run, a sixth-inning hit by Vik scored
Samantha Collins and gave Crown a 4-2 lead that they kept to the end.
In game two, Crown faced an early one-run deficit but countered in the third inning as they scored three runs.
Cassidy Valenzuela hit a single scoring the first run of the inning, followed by an
Olivia Dols single up the middle scoring
Marissa Carter.
Lottie Ellis grounded out, scoring Valenzuela for the third run of the inning and Crown took a 3-1 lead. In the fifth inning,
Olivia Dols and
Lottie Ellis both hit sacrifice flies to go up 5-2. Northwestern scored another run to make it a two-run game, but
Lis King closed out the game for the Storm and Crown finished the sweep of UNW 5-3.
First-year
Olivia Christopherson received the win for the Storm, pitching six innings and allowing only three runs, with four strikeouts.
Lis King received her second save of the season with one inning without any runs scoring. King also finished the game with no official at-bats, walking all four plate appearances.
