Crown Sweeps North Central, Perfect 6-0 in UMAC

MINNEAPOLIS — Crown's softball team improved to 6-0 in UMAC play as they bested North Central on Saturday morning at Augsburg University's indoor facility. In game one, Lis King led Crown with 15 batters faced, and 15 outs (with six strikeouts). King allowed only one hit, but a 643 double-play following the hit retired the runner.

Crown scored first in the bottom half of the first inning of Crown's first match on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Dols to score leadoff batter Marissa Carter. Dols scored next for Crown in the fifth inning, with a single that scored pinch runner Samantha Collins. Later in the inning, Lottie Ellis scored Dols and Laryssa Vik. After North Central scored two runs in the top half of the sixth inning, Crown came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth on a Cassidy Valenzuela single gave Carter another chance to reach home plate. After King came out of the game in the fifth inning, Kailee Leathers came in as a pitcher to complete the game for the Storm. King improved her season record to 6-5.

In game two, Crown went down 0-2 in the top half of the second inning but quickly came back scoring three of their own on a trio of poor defensive plays for the Rams. North Central matched that with a run of their own; however, Crown kept their lead as Crown put up three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Crown added another four runs in the fourth inning on big hits from Ellis and Dols, and a Carter single in the fifth, scoring Amanda Morrison and causing the eight-run rule to be used, ending the game. Pitcher Olivia Christopherson pitched a complete game with three earned runs and seven strikeouts. She improves her season record to 6-5.

Crown softball travels to Austin, Minnesota to host Bethany Lutheran on Monday morning.
