St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Crown softball rolled against Northland to stay perfect in UMAC play on Thursday as Crown hosted a Northland home game. Crown swept both games, winning by scores of 8-2 and 19-1 (in five innings).
Lis King picked up her fifth win of the season, and
Olivia Christopherson won her second straight UMAC game. Both remain perfect in UMAC play.
In game one, the scoring started early as
Olivia Dols hit an RBI double to score
Cassidy Valenzuela and advancing
Lis King to third. King scored on a
Lottie Ellis fielder's choice for Crown to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Crown allowed one run in the second inning, and after both teams were scoreless in the third, Crown opened up the game again with two RBI singles in the fourth by
Cassidy Valenzuela and
Marissa Carter. After those consecutive RBI singles, King stepped up to the plate and blasted her fifth homer of the season. The inning continued, and with two outs, Ellis hit a long drive to center, which was dropped by the Lumberjills' centerfielder, allowing two more runs to score and Crown to take an 8-1 lead. Crown held on to that lead, and the game ended 8-2 in favor of the Storm. King pitched a complete game win with four strikeouts and only two runs allowed.
In game two, Crown didn't score in the first inning but scored four or more runs in the next four innings to win the contest 19-1. Everyone got in on the action as Crown had 22 hits and an incredible seven steals in the game. Leading the charge for the Storm was Carter who had a team-high five RBIs and was three of four from the plate. King had another strong performance, going with four hits and four RBIs. Valenzuela had a great game with four hits and a team-high two extra-base hits in the game. Courtney Gunderson pitch-hit for two RBIs and Ellis also had two RBIs in the contest.
Samantha Collins led the team with two steals as she also had three hits in the game.
Olivia Christopherson won the game with three innings pitched, with
Kailee Leathers coming in for two shutout relief innings for the Storm.
