Minneapolis, Minn. — Crown's baseball season started last night in the late hours at US Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings and University of Minnesota's baseball team. Unfortunately, Crown's season started only with a whimper as Carleton College took both games 15-2 and 11-3.
In game one, Carleton went up early as they scored seven runs (only three earned) in the first inning on senior pitcher
Tanner Pruett, who only lasted that inning. Coming in relief for the Storm was first-year pitcher
Ethan Hyatt who went five innings in his first game for Crown and had his two first collegiate strikeouts. Crown did score two runs on the Carleton ace, both off of a
Kress Medina single in the second inning, scoring
Connor Buchanan and
Levi Knott as Medina looks to continue his success from the previous season.
In game two, Crown took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after a catcher
Seth Betts opened the game with a triple, and was able to reach home plate after a single by
Joel Silva. Unfortunately, Crown's starting pitcher
Gideon Dunn struggled after a shutout first inning. Dunn allowed eight runs (seven earned) in four innings of work for the Storm. Sidearm pitcher
JT Adams came and pitched a shutout inning of relief work, and
Levi Knott closed out the game with two innings of relief.
Crown had a brief comeback during the seventh as
Levi Knott led off the inning with a double,
Brooks Repking reaching on an error, and
Brandt Hubert reached after being hit by a pitch from the Carleton pitcher.
Jason Sroufe singled scoring Knott, and outfielder
Hunter Orozco followed that up with an RBI groundout, scoring Repking. Unfortunately, the game ended after that, with Carleton besting Crown 3-11.
Pruett took the loss in game one, and Dunn took the loss in the second game. Crown continues their season as they travel to Winter Haven, Florida for a Spring Break series of games.
