St. Cloud, Minn. — Crown's softball team began on the road today in St. Cloud at the SCSU Husky Dome facing one of the top finishers in the MIAC last season. Crown struggled against the tough CSB team, falling to the MIAC school 1-21 and 1-15.
In game one, Crown struck first after loading the bases without any outs, and St. Ben's walked in first-year Olivia Christopherson after four balls to fellow first-year Laryssa Vik. Christopherson started her first game of the season; however, she struggled to keep runners off of the base paths, with 14 earned runs in three innings. Fellow first-year Kailee Leathers pitched without earned runs in her one inning of work but did give up four unearned runs. Crown had two hits in the game, Demi Brezina and Cassidy Valenzuela both had one each. Valenzuela, who walked twice along with the hit, reached base all three plate appearances.
In game two, reigning UMAC Player of the Year Lis King pitched, and while it went better than game one, she did allow 15 runs in the game. King and sophomore Olivia Dols both had two hits in the match. King, with a walk and two hits, reached all three times she went up to the plate. Analyse Baladez and Vik both had one hit in the second game. Despite the significant amount of runs, only six were earned runs as King started out her season. Christopherson scored Crown's lone run as she was hit in by sophomore 2nd baseman Olivia Dols on a single as Crown fell 1-15.
