ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown Men's Basketball improved to 6-2 in the early season on Friday evening as they beat the UW-Stout Blue Devils 101-90. For the second straight game, Crown ended the game strongly, this game with a 10-0 run to close out the win.
Junior forward
Timothy Wendel scored his 1,000th point right before halftime and was honored at the half. Wendel is the fifth member of the Crown Men's Basketball 1,000 point-club, joining Truman Shetler,
Taylor Jones, James Brown, and
Austin VanDerHeyden. Wendel, who achieved the milestone in only 54 career games, is the fastest ever to the mark in a Storm uniform. Wendel had his second straight double-double, with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He also added six assists, a block, and a steal. Wendel went 11/12 from the charity stripe.
Senior guard
Josh Volness led the team in scoring, with 20 points in the game, going 7/9 from the field and 4/5 from three-point range. Sophomore guard
Christian Moore had 18 points in the game on 7/13 shooting, with four rebounds and four assists. Senior
Keegan Oyugi scored 16 points and had seven assists, six in the first half for the second straight game. Junior
Gunnar Ledin had 17 points off the bench, along with the best +/- on the team with a +17 point differential when on the court.
Crown had a great day from the free throw line, making 27 shots of 29 attempts for a 93.1 FT shooting percentage. The Storm shot 50% from the field and 38% from three, and held the Blue Devils to 47% from the field and 35% from three. Crown heads to Decorah, Iowa tomorrow for a matchup at 4 pm with Luther College. The Storm have their next home game on Wednesday as the Northwestern Eagles come to St. Bonifacius for UMAC basketball.
