ST. PAUL, Minn. --- Crown women's basketball team started their season on Friday evening, trying to repeat the result from their opener from last year, where they bested Hamline in St. Bonifacius. However, this year they weren't able to beat the Hamline on the Pipers home court, as they fell to HU 25-81. Crown has nearly a brand team with
Stevey De La Ossa the only starter returning for the Storm.
The Storm struggled early, with only five points and 27 turnovers in the first two quarters. Crown only had 11 field goal attempts in the first half compared to the Pipers' 40. In the second half, Crown quadrupled their scoring in the first (with 20 points), but it was far from enough, as the Storm lost to Hamline.
Junior guard
Stevey De La Ossa was the leading scorer for the Storm with ten points, making all but one of her shots in the game (3/4 FG, 4/4 FT). Junior post
Patricia Gibson led the team with five rebounds, and Gibson also led the team with three assists. First-year
Elizabeth Gross scored her first career points for the Storm after going 2/2 from the free throw line late.
Crown looks to rebound from their loss as they head to Augsburg on the 15th of November.
