ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown's volleyball team swept the Macalester Scots on Wednesday evening at the Wild Athletic Center, their second sweep in the past three games. Crown came out with a bang, winning the first set 25-16. The Storm followed it up with two close wins 25-23 and 27-25.
In the third set, eyeing the victory, the Storm fans came alive and Crown didn't waver after the Scots were within a point of victory 24-23. This win was Crown Volleyball's first win over a MIAC since 2011, in which Crown barely got past Macalester 3-2.
Crown was led by junior
Christine Anderson, who had ten kills in the game and only a single error, a .333 hitting percentage. First-year
Elizabeth Clark led the team with 20 assists. Crown was all over the place defensive with blocks from junior
Karissa Steinkamp (3), Anderson (2), senior
Brittany Rolf (2), and junior
Sarah Reinke (1). Crown had a team effort on the receiving end, with 40 team digs and eight different players with three or more and no player with over seven.
"It was awesome to see the girls improvement throughout the season, and we came out really strong," said Steinkamp. "Even if we had a few misserves or anything, we still fought through and won the game."
Crown heads to St. Kate's for a match against another MIAC on Friday before returning home for a three-game homestand next week.
