St. Bonifacius, Minn. — During the second game at KleinBank stadium, the men's soccer team uplifted the Crown supporters spirits after a lackluster football game, shutting out a MIAC team that tied with Northwestern the night before. This victory is Crown's first NCAA-era MIAC men's soccer win since an overtime win against Hamline in 2011.
Goalkeeper
Eli Etzel had an incredible game with 12 saves and allowing no goals to the MIAC team.
Cristian Olarte scored on a ball from
Ger Jones in the 17th minute to take a 1-nil lead. Later in the half,
Storm Heyer came off the bench with ten minutes left and did not hesitate to impact the game with a goal in the 38th minute, assisted by
Cole Hempfling. Crown only had six shots on goal in the game but made them count, with Jakob Bartels only saving three shots on goal, allowing the two goals.
In the second half, physical play and a strong Storm defensive effort prevented a goal from the opposing Royals, including a penalty kick save by Etzel and an offsides goal by Bethel overturned by the referees.
The Crown men next play at home on Tuesday against another MIAC, Augsburg at 7 pm.
