St. Bonifacius, Minn. — The Crown softball team split the series with conference champions St. Scholastica at home on Saturday, as playoff seeds were finalized during the weekend.
In game one, despite scoring first on a
Cassidy Valenzuela first-inning single, Crown allowed seven runs with no additional run support, falling to St. Scholastica 1-7. Third baseman
Janelle Williams was Crown's only batter to have multiple hits in the game.
The the second game of the doubleheader, Crown was able to find their bats to create runs, with a three-run first inning highlighted by another Valenzuela RBI single and a single by pitcher
Lis King. King added another RBI on a fielder's choice in the second inning; King also pitched a complete game with four earned runs and no walks.
After splitting the series with St. Scholastica, Crown has beaten every UMAC opponent either by splitting their UMAC games or sweeping the doubleheader. Crown will be a #2 seed in the upcoming UMAC tournament, heading to St. Scholastica to face Northwestern on Thursday.
