King's Shut Out, Valenzuela's HR Advance Crown

Duluth, Minn. — Crown dominated their first playoff game as the #2 seed, advancing to the next round of the double elimination tournament shutting out Northwestern 7-0.

The story of the game was the pitching performance of Lis King, who struck out seven and only allowed six combined hits and walks in her complete game.

The run production for Crown started early with a RBI single from Kate McLaughlin scoring Janelle Williams in the first inning, quickly followed by another single by Olivia Dols to score both Valenzuela and King. In the second inning, Lis King singled to score Williams and hit another single to score Moriah Sawyer. King got on base all four plate appearances with two hits and two walks, along with two RBIs and two runs. After King's second RBI single, outfielder Cassidy Valenzuela hit a two-run homer scoring King and herself opening up the lead to 7-0; it was Valenzuela's first home run of the season. Crown never looked back from there with King allowing no runs in the game.

Williams had the most hits in the contest with three, including a triple and also stole a base in the game. Dols, King, Valenzuela, McLaughlin, and Samantha Collins all had multiple hits in the match, as Crown had an impressive 15 hits.

Crown next plays at noon on Friday against the winner of St. Scholastica/Bethany Lutheran.
