Menomonie, Wis. — Crown's softball team went to Wisconsin this weekend to face the WIAC's Wisconsin-Stout. Despite solid play in the doubleheader, Crown was edged out by Stout in both contests, 1-3 and 7-8 (in nine innings).
Pitcher
Lis King started game one, and only allowed three runs in a complete game, striking out six batters along the way. King allowed one walk, her ninth of the season in 87 innings of work. She currently has more walks while at the plate than on the mound, an excellent ratio for as many innings she has put in thus far in the season. Unfortunately, she was outdueled in the first game as Stout held Crown to four hits. Outfielder
Cassidy Valenzuela had two of the four.
In game two, the Crown bats came alive early scoring seven runs in the first two innings.
Lis King had two early RBIs for Crown. Shortstop
Marissa Becerra and third baseman
Janelle Williams each had RBIs in the inning. Despite this early scoring, Crown's bats quickly quieted, as Stout inched back into the game, tying it up in the fifth inning. Crown eventually lost in extras as Stout scored a run with two outs in the ninth.
Crown softball next plays at home on Tuesday, facing the UMAC's Minnesota-Morris.
