Cruz's Blast, Early Runs Not Enough to Beat UWS

Superior, Wis. — Crown played a doubleheader on Saturday against Wisconsin-Superior, but couldn't find a win as Superior was able to take home the sweep, bring both team's UMAC records to .500.

In game one, Crown scored first on a double by Dalton Wintersole (scoring Harry Ballantyne) for the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After Superior had scored two straight runs, Hunter Foss singled to tie the game at two in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, the scoring for Crown dulled from there with only more run in the sixth inning as David Cruz walked in a run.

Tanner Pruett pitched game one with 6.2 innings and four earned runs. Pruett had an impressive eight strikeouts in the match. Trey Widmier came in and pitched the final 1.1 innings of action with no runs scored.

In game two, Crown scored the first five runs of the game, but the Superior bats caught fire in the latter half of the game to win the game 8-6. The game was highlighted by David Cruz's rocket for a two-run home run in the third inning. Kress Medina and Harry Ballantyne had the other two extra base hits for Crown in the game.

Crown baseball next plays in Mankato on Tuesday facing Bethany Lutheran.
