St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Crown held their home opener in the sunshine on Monday, and the team did not disappoint, winning the first game 2-0 against MIAC opponent Augsburg College.
While the focus recently has been on sophomore pitcher Lis King's batting recently (winning UMAC Player of the Week after her five home runs on the Florida trip), she reminded everyone of her elite pitching today against Augsburg. King only allowed four hits and no walks while striking out seven, with no runs against her. It was her performance, despite only having two runs of support that allowed Crown to get the win against the MIAC school.
In the second game, it proved to be more of a challenge without King on the mound, allowing four early runs to an Augsburg team that contained Crown's offensive attack all game. The Storm's lone run came on a deep double by shortstop
Marissa Becerra, but that wasn't enough as Crown fell to the Auggies 1-9 in the second game.
Crown next plays at North Central on April 1st.
