Men's Soccer Opens Season at Warrior Cup

Milwaukee, Wis. – The Crown men's soccer team opened the 2016 season at the Warrior Cup, a four team tournament hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College.  The Storm lost the opener 2-0 to Iowa Wesleyan before earning a draw with eventual tournament champion Wisconsin Lutheran.

Crown was a bit unlucky on Friday night, seeing several good chances in the first half without a breakthrough before a pair of mistakes led to both Iowa Wesleyan goals.

On Saturday, the Storm fell behind in the first half before a perfectly executed free kick from Ger Jones was volleyed home by Storm Heyer to tie things at one apiece.

From there, Crown defended for their lives, surviving 50 shots from the favored home team en route to a 1-1 draw.

Goalkeeper Eli Etzel was the man of the match, recording a school record 24 saves to help Crown earn a fantastic result.

For their defensive efforts, Etzel and Reagan Mahoney were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Crown returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hamline.
