St. Paul, Minn. – The men's soccer team lost in overtime 2-3 to Northwestern on Tuesday, ruining a comeback attempt with an equalizing goal in the 82nd minute.
The game had a slow start, with no goals in the first half, but once the second half started, that trend was over. Northwestern's junior
Mateusz Gralinski (Mahtomedi/Mahtomedi) scored in the 51st minute to break the tie after a pass from senior
Sam Diatta (Ziguinchor, Senegal/St. Paul Central).
In the 59th minute, senior
Sam Eckman (Edinboro, Penn/Dalat School) was able to tie the game, but that was shortlived as Northwestern's sophomore
Nathan Olin (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) scored in the 63rd minute off an assist by senior
Chris Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa/Waterloo West).
The game remained 1-2 in favor of Northwestern until Crown's sophomore
Josh Samsa (Cambridge/Cambridge-Isanti) scored off junior
Ger Jones (Bethel, Wales/Brynrefail School) pass that tied the game with eight minutes remaining. The game remained tied into overtime.
However, four minutes into overtime, Northwestern's Cleope passed to
Derrick Aminga (Andover/Andover) for the game-winning goal.
Crown's men play at University of Wisconsin-Superior for their next conference game on Saturday.
